Prior Conciliation Service in Consumer Relations Dissolved

Decree 55/2025 was published in the Official Gazette on February 2, 2025, dissolving the Prior Conciliation Service in Consumer Relations (COPREC), which had been created ten years ago through Law 26993. COPREC had the purpose of resolving, at a federal level, conflicts in consumer relations governed by the Consumer Defense Law.

This measure seeks to prevent the overlap of functions with other similar agencies and to streamline administrative processes. The regulation is grounded since COPREC would have operated exclusively in the City of Buenos Aires, which implied interference with other local agencies that could process and resolve claims in a more efficient manner. The Decree also states that dissolving COPREC will reduce costs for suppliers, which in turn will result in lower prices of the goods and services they offer.

The administrative proceedings initiated before COPREC that are still spending will be concluded before the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy, which will retain all the corresponding powers and attributions.
