Deregulation of the Social Security and Prepaid Medicine System

On February 21, 2024, the National Executive Branch issued Decrees 170/2024 and 171/2024, regulating Decree 70/2023 (“Bases for the Reconstruction of the Argentine Economy”). The highlight of the new regulation is that the decrees enable beneficiaries to freely choose between social security and prepaid health insurance companies.

Further, the Decrees eliminate restrictions and limitations that had been established through Decree 438/2021: the obligation during the first year of employment to remain in the mandatory medical plan (obra social) of the activity and the limitation of changing  medical plans only once a year.
