New Geographical Indication for Argentine Tea
This tea, grown in the southernmost tea-producing region of the world, is crafted from a blend of Camellia sinensis buds, leaves, petioles, and stems.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries—under the Ministry of Economy—issued Resolution 126/2024, published in the Official Gazette on December 26, 2024, recognizing “TÉ ARGENTINO” as a Geographical Indication (GI). The request for recognizing, registering, and protecting the GI was filed by the non-profit organization Consejo de la Indicación Geográfica Té Argentino.
The Resolution:
- Grants the certification to use the GI.
- Approves the logotype used to commercialize the products the GI covers.
- Establishes the obligation to use the term “INDICACIÓN GEOGRÁFICA PROTEGIDA” on all the products the GI covers, following Resolution 546/2011 of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
- Establishes the obligation to use the logotypes in the Resolution to benefit from the refunds provided for GI products, following Decree 1341/2016 of the Ministry of Agroindustry.
The new GI logotype is as follows:
The GI covers tea-producing areas in northeastern Corrientes, and Misiones. The map of the new GI is available here.
