New Geographical Indication for Honey in Argentina
This honey is obtained from the flowers of Atamisqui, a shrub native to northwestern Argentina.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries—under the Ministry of Economy—issued Resolution 127/2024, published in the Official Gazette on December 23, 2024, recognizing “MIEL DE FLORES DE ATAMISQUI DE SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO” as a Geographical Indication (GI). The request for recognizing, registering, and protecting the GI was filed by the non-profit organization Consejo de la Indicación Geográfica Miel de Flores de Atamisqui de Santiago del Estero.
The Resolution:
- Grants the certification to use the GI.
- Approves the logotype used to commercialize the products the GI covers.
- Establishes the obligation to use the term “INDICACIÓN GEOGRÁFICA PROTEGIDA” on all the products the GI covers, following Resolution 546/2011 of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
- Establishes the obligation to use the logotypes in the Resolution to benefit from the refunds provided for GI products, following Decree 1341/2016 of the Ministry of Agroindustry.
The new GI logotype is as follows:
The protected GI area covers the departments of Figueroa, Banda, Robles, Capital, Sarmiento, San Martín, Avellaneda, Atamisqui, Loreto, Salípica, Salavina, Quebrachos and Ojo de Agua. The map of the new GI is available here.
