Elias F. Bestani specializes in shipping and aviation law, insurance and reinsurance, and in the resolution of complex disputes.
He advises clients on the merchant marine and cabotage regimes and on ship-finance, shipbuilding and ship-purchase contracts. He has negotiated time and bareboat charters and volume contracts and has experience in offshore and LNG operations. He provides counsel in marine pollution matters, collisions and in ship arrests.
In recent years, Elias has been actively handling complex aircraft collision disputes and advising clients on the sale, purchase and lease of aircrafts. He also has experience in aircraft arrest and has advised clients on various aspects of commercial aviation regulations.
Elias also provides counsel in marine and non-marine insurance and reinsurance, with a focus on claims handling and litigation. He has advised clients in insurance regulations related to the setting up of insurance companies, their investment regimes, portfolio transfers and in strategic distribution arrangements.
He has handled complex litigation, including cases involving sovereign immunity and surcharges on jet fuel sales, heard by the Argentine Supreme Court.
He was seconded to Greenberg Traurig, LLP for more than a year, where he gained experience in international corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions. He has published articles in his field of expertise and has lectured at conferences, symposia and on graduate and postgraduate courses both in Argentina and abroad.
In 2003 Elias earned an LL.M. degree from Columbia University, in the city of New York and in 1999 he received his undergraduate degree in Law from the Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires.
